THE HOME OF CHARACTER STAYS

Welcome to our collection of character stays—an award-winning guesthouse and four private apartments in the heart of Tavistock, a riverside cottage in Calstock, Cornwall, and a village house in Tuscany.
Each one has been designed with care to last, carrying a little of our character in every detail.
The hotel began life in 1752 as an inn on the cobbled coach road from London to Truro—today, that same route forms our courtyard. Inside, you’ll find a welcoming drawing room and six individually styled bedrooms. High-quality bedding, in-room tea and coffee, and Neal’s Yard organic toiletries come as standard—because comfort should feel effortless.
We’re just 60 yards away from Tavistock’s Bedford Square and a short stroll to some of the town’s best restaurants, from The Cornish Arms to Church Lane. Families visiting Mount Kelly also make us their base.
Above all, we host with intention—celebrating local makers and artists, supporting Tavistock’s shops and communities, and placing sustainability at the centre of everything we do.

Breakfast
Breakfast is available for £10 per person and can be served in your room, the drawing room, or the courtyard garden. Exclusively for our hotel guests.
Wifi & Technology
We offer free digital WiFi throughout the house, plus a laptop, printer, and iPad for you to use whenever you need.
Parking
There are eight on-street parking bays right outside the house, as well as unrestricted street parking nearby. Click here to learn more about our guide to local parking.
Housekeeping
To keep our prices as low as possible, we don’t offer daily housekeeping during your stay. But if you need extra towels, tea, coffee, or anything else to make your stay more comfortable, just let us know.
Early Check-In and or Late Check-Out
We often get asked about early check-in (dropping bags off, collecting keys, showering etc) and late check-out—good news, we can arrange it!
For £20, you can check in from around 12 noon or stay a little longer until 12 midday.
Just let us know in advance so we can adjust our housekeeping schedule.

Bicycles
Bicycles can be stored and secured in our courtyard or in our garage adjacent to the house. We advise that you keep them locked up as usual.

All major credit/debit cards accepted but cash is always preferred.

Arriving at One Drake Road
Please use the 'dark grey' front door' located at the side of the house on Drake Road. Apartment guests please use the entrance via the green stairs leading into the courtyard.
Facilities
All rooms come with tea and coffee-making facilities and a hairdryer. Need an iron and ironing board? Just ask! We also have plates, cutlery, and glasses available on request, plus a laundry service if you need it.
Pets
To ensure the comfort of all our guests, including those with allergies, we unfortunately don’t allow pets at One Drake Road but do welcome them in our private apartments

Unfortunately we cannot accept responsibility for items left on our property.
We charge a minimum of £10 to package and return items via recorded delivery.
The hotel is situated within an old Georgian town house over three floors. There are staircases that do not connect and no lift. The main entrance is accessed

Number Two & Four Russell House, Paddons & Paddons Lodge private apartments, Fourteen Providence are all off-site. One Drake Road apartment is located at the main house.

'Direct' Booking Cancellation Policy
We have a fourteen day cancellation policy.
In the event of non-arrival, or cancellation made after 2pm fourteen days prior to your booked arrival date,
a charge equivalent to the rate booked for your stay will be charged to your credit/debit card.
But in the event of you cancelling within the fourteen days prior to your arrival, if we can resell the room(s) you will be given a full refund.
Should you decide to book via an online travel agent, the booking policy applied to that agent and or booking will be adhered to.
